Review of Cargo (2017) by Jack L — 17 May 2018
Martin Freeman is fast occupying that exalted space in movies where I'll watch anything if it has his name on it. It used to be a role occupied by Will Smith, but he is now a name that guarantees avoidance.
How the mighty have fallen. So until and if Freeman self-destructs, I have hope. This is what this film is about. Hope in the face of despair. The zombies have only a bit part in all this, and it's the performances of the leads that are what make this touching and compelling.
Beautiful location shots add to it all. Proof that Australia can make good zombie stuff. Something I was beginning to doubt having seen the awful Glitch series. Maybe Netflix should stick to the more thoughtful, low key dramas and avoid stuff like the appalling Bright.
Yes. Will Smith. You too.
