Review of Caravans (1978) by Kevin R — 07 Aug 2014
I came here when I wanted to and I'll leave when I want to.
Ellen Jasper is the daughter of a US senator that has married a Middle Eastern general and joined his caravan in the Middle East. Mark Miller is a young, US Senator sent to retrieve Ellen. He has some hesitation but takes the mission since he has no choice. Once he meets Ellen, he is even more reluctant to force her to come home.
"If you cannot see the light you're mad or blind.".
James Fargo, director of The Enforcer, Every Which Way but Loose, Game of Vultures, Forced Vengeance, Born to Race, and Riding the Edge, delivers Caravans. The storyline for this picture is just okay and fairly cliché. A few characters were interesting and the settings were well selected. The cast delivered okay performances and includes Joseph Cotton, Christopher Lee, Anthony Quinn, Michael Sarrazin, and Jennifer O'Neil.
"Washington does not know what the hell they're asking for!".
I came across this on Netflix and decided to give it a viewing based on its surprisingly high reviews (3.5 stars). I felt this was an above average addition to the genre. It wasn't special or classic in any way, in my opinion, and they made the caravan a mix of hippie and gypsy feel. Overall, not a complete waste of time but nothing special either.
"In this country a wife is the property of her husband.".
Grade: C+.
