Review of Caramel (2007) by Wooda M — 25 Sep 2008
This has been billed as Sex and the City Lebanese Style - it isn't. It really isn't. It is quite good though, especially considering that Nadine Labaki managed to direct this movie while being in almost every frame. She is gorgeous, and really one and a half hours of her means you don't really need a story.
It does have a story, in an existentialist kind of way, but nothing gets resolved! To me it felt like they had made a two hour long movie and then chopped off the last half hour. You don't know how anything ends up. Maybe I've just been watching too many Hollywood movies with neat endings lately, but I find this a bit annoying.
Maybe she's gunning for a sequel.
