Review of Caramel (2007) by Mary G — 03 Feb 2009
A stunning and sensuous portrayal of the lives of 5 women with varying religious beliefs, who work in a beauty salon in Lebanon. It colorfully displays the modern lives, loves, and the turmoil of religious/political tensions of modern day Lebanon.
The movie shows us, in heartwarming glory, that, like the symbolic caramel (sukkar banat), the bonds of feminine energy and friendship can be the adhesive in our lives and give us the strength to overcome.
