Review of Capturing the Friedmans (2003) by Brian B — 09 Apr 2009
This is a really fascinating thing to see. I had always wondered what goes on within a family when some of its members are charged with some horrific crime. They said in the movie that a stronger family might have survived this, but it's hard to imagine how.
One of the most interesting parts about this one, however, was the fact that we never really find out the truth. Arnold was, no doubt, a scuzz and was probably guilty, but of what? Who knows. The movie hit upon a lot of the underlying hysteria that existed in the late 80's, and still does now to some degree, about sex crimes against children and the length that some cops will go to to prove somebody guilty of it. A curious thing to watch indeed.
