Review of Capturing the Friedmans (2003) by Diane G — 02 May 2009
A brilliant documentary about the collapse of a (seemingly) average family. It reminds you so much of the McMartin witch hunts, and all the more fascinating as the family documented their disintegration during the period.
Very voyeuristic, as you're right there with them. Showing both sides without any input from the director, you are flip-flopping back and forth -- did it or didn't it happen? Very emotional and thought-provocking.
You are left to make your own decision. If you watch it, be sure to get the two-disc set as the extras are definitely worth seeing. One of my top favorite documentaries.
