Review of Capturing the Friedmans (2003) by Allen B — 22 Aug 2010
A freak show of a documentary. Jesus Christ, I never was so polarized during a "who-dun-it" doc before like this. In the end the entire group of people who were part of this all look bad. The mother looks like a crazy controlling delusional bitch.
The brothers all look like maladjusted human beings. The father is a admitted pedophile who is (in his Son's words not mine) "Pussy whipped". The supposed molested kids look like blithering retards as adults.
The ones who didn't say they were raped look like perfectly OK human beings. The cops look like the hero in the beginning but by the end of the film they look like "Go-Get-Em Cowboys" rather then detectives.
Seriously, this is one of those true stories that the term "You can't make this shit up" applies to. You'll enjoy debating who you believe throughout the whole thing, then at the end, you really won't know anymore then you did when you first started this film.
Solid little documentary. Big fan of the concept of how easily truth can be muffled up between many different forces. Great Concept Great Execution, watch it!
