Review of Capturing the Friedmans (2003) by Cathe J — 19 Jul 2004
So many movies, so little time. I have to say that I was fascinated by Spider-Man 2. It's so interesting to see Sam Raimi given money to do things and see how well they come out. The best part? Kirsten Dunst was only in about 20 minutes of the film.
Anchorman is getting mixed reviews, but I thought it was hilarious. Plus, three good Freaks and Geekscameos. Plus lots of other cameos. I'm a sucker for cameos. For me, Will Ferrel is either hit or miss, but I liked him in this. He played the sleeze with a heart. Steve Carell? Hilarous. I love lamp!
Coffee and Cigarettes is a collection of short vignettes about, well people hanging out drinking coffee and cigarettes. Some were good (like the Cate Blanchett one), some great (like the Alfred Molina, Steve Coogan one), some not so great (like the weird Steve Buscemi with a fake Memphis accent one) and some just weird (like the Gza, Rza, and Bill Murray one). I think I sohuld have waited to see this on IFC.
Hulk Yeah, this one sucked enough for me to start playing Tetris while watching it, making the ending probably even more inexplicable. I liked the use of comic book panels, though.
Capturing the Friedmans: What an interesting look at how our memories can trick us. I imagine the family will never know the truth, if there is such a thing. Pretty fascinating.
Oops, will add more in the nect entry.
