Truly a masterwork, CAPTURING THE FRIEDMANS, explores just about every issue that could possibly face the notion of family. Never taking the easy route, filmmaker Jarecki guides us but never tells us what to think.

What is "the truth?" What happens within the family dynamic? How can one close knit family living in a house in Great Neck experience everything so differently? Having now seen this film about 10 times, you realize its brilliance lies in the way the film grows and changes with you.

The unanswered questions I had on first viewing are totally different from those I experienced now. The central "theme" that I thought was so present has now been replaced by another. Like its characters' dilemna, the film posits the audience into a world so subjective, "truth" can no longer, and most importantly, never existed.

A stunning achievement!
