Review of Captivity (2007) by Mikel R — 06 Mar 2008
Elisha Cuthbert seriously needs to fire her agent! The first 50 minutes of the 75 minute running time consists of Cuthbert's character trying to find a way out of the cellar she's trapped in, meeting a very dubious "fellow victim" and getting drugged and "teased" by the anonymous bad guy numerous times.
It's all very boring stuff involving various torturous methods that we've seen performed better many times before. The final 15 minutes are actually good fun and inject a tiny amount of suspense and welcome energy into the proceedings.
But it's still a very silly film riddled with cliches from various superior horror films. The director obviously thought he'd have a hit on his hands if he chucked everything decent from hits like Saw and Hostel into a blender and poured out the result.
What he got was a mixed bag containing parts of an average horror movie with large chunks of a terrible horror movie.
