Review of Captivity (2007) by Kevin R — 21 Mar 2010
Is she worth it?
A serial killer is on the loose and is known for capturing his targets, keeping them captive, and torturing them death. His next target is a superficial model that may be more prepared for his games than he knows. When the model arrives to the place of captivity, she encounters another captive. The emotional bond formed between the two captives will help them survive but may ultimately lead to their demise.
"Please help me!".
Roland Joffe, director of Tis Pity She's a Whore, The Killing Fields, The Mission, City of Joy, The Scarlett Letter, You and I, and the upcoming There be Dragons, delivers Captivity. The storyline for this picture is unoriginal and unevenly presented. The subplots were clever and fascinating at time but also inconsistent. The characters were well presented and the cast includes Elisha Cuthbert, Daniel Gillies, and Laz Alonso.
"I know creeps. It comes with the job.".
My mother in-law owns this picture and the fact that it was one of the 8 Films to Die for Collection drew my attention to this flick. I also enjoy watching bad horror films and this picture definitely fit into that category. It was very evident that this film was trying to capitalize on the success of the Saw series and brought little originality to this genre. The ultimate resolution of this film was well done but this film has little else going for it. I recommend skipping this picture.
"Tricked you! Ha Ha Ha.".
Grade: D-.
