Review of Captain Ron (1992) by Travis J — 01 Oct 2008
What's with Kurt Russell and playing characters with eye patches? Coincedence, or something else entirety - studio audience, hands on buzzers. So ok, the plot, kind of sparse, but at least there were no stupid montages to make up for the holes in plots.
.. though again, there's just something about Kurt Russell as a one eyed party animal, rebellion twinged youth icon straight off the streets of lollapalooza that's about as disturbing as his eye patch fetish.
.. or maybe its just something about Kurt Russell in general, no se. Other tan that, hrmm, Martin Short doesn't make a very compelling family man, and whoever the kid is who they hired to look like Maccauly Culkin is kind of malformed.
.. and the 16 year old daughter looks to be about 7 years older than Short's wife... Halfway through it, we decided to cut the sound and throw on a "tropical dance mix." After that, the film got much better.
In all, I don't want to say that the film entirely lacks redeeming qualities, but ala the prospects of an eventual Criterion release here, erm, yah, not so much.
