Review of Captain Phillips (2013) by Daniel G — 05 Aug 2014
An amazing account of the hijacked boat by Somali pirates. While intense and gritty, it shows how far someone will go to protect the ones they care about. The lead pirate is horrifically realistic in his first ever performance (is it the real guy?) and will have you cringing.
While not as intense as United 93, it still is emotionally gripping and contains a few bloody images among desperate actions of survival. You don't know the full details of what went on till you've seen the movie.
The film crew barely made up anything (dialogue and brief unaccounted for conversations) all actions in this movie actually happened, which makes it all the more frightening and realistic. A true hero who went through more than the press revealed that day.
