Review of Captain Fantastic (2016) by Aïko G — 20 Nov 2016
Captain Fantastic is a family drama unlike any other. It brings themes that I kept on thinking about long after the movie is over. We see a family of 6 children growing up with their eccentric father, far away from any sort of modern society.
The mother is in the hospital because of a mental disease. When the family finds out she committed suicide, they all go to her funeral. This puts in motion a range of encounters and moments where the family realise living so far away from any society comes with side effects, good ones and bad ones.
With a great performance by Viggo Mortensen, 'Captain Fantastic' is a great emotional drama that made me think about the present day consumer society and many more themes this movie throws at you.
It has humor, sadness, happiness and many more emotions all wrapped up in an amazing movie that I'll remember for a long time.
