Review of Captain Fantastic (2016) by Becky F — 29 Dec 2016
A man, living it the woods with his six kids, has a different apporach of life and it's values than the rest of the world. He is teaching his kids to deal with life using methods that are very unorthodox. He loves his kids, they love him. The mother is dying and when she is gone they need to give her a proper goodbye, naturally in way that seem weird to everyone except from them.
Not the funniest of comedies, but it has some fun elements. Still, this is more of a drama for me, with elements from typical road movies, adventure and coming of age as light elements. Viggo Mortensen is in shape, the rest of the acting is also good.
I like the idea and overall this is a good flick, but it's more a comment to motern society than anything else. Good story that takes some unexpected turns, some of them a bit drastic for the movie's own good. Never funny or deep enough, so it will be remembered as an OK time-killer. Interesting indie piece with touches of Wes Anderson, but not with as much charm.
6 out of 10 hippies in clown outfits.
