Review of Captain Fantastic (2016) by Tom C — 19 Nov 2017
Still memorable one year later. This movie explores, one Father rejection of the World, to extent he chooses to bring up his own children away from the same consumerism , he so rejects and loathes. The irony, is that as much as he thinks he is trying to protect his children, from Worldy decay, it is this very same World, that his children must grow up to engage with, to deal with, to socialize with and within.
it is as though, he seeks an imaginary world which does not exist, and so he seeks the same for his children. And yet, when his children grow up, it is this very same World, good or bad, hopeful or sad, that they must deal with, and not some imaginary world.
Tough ideas, dealt w in a very tender way, w Father and children. Are we not all in the same boat? We hold our disdain to society false values, False heroes, sometimes we are living groundless ness, and yet, this is the very same World that our children must learn to survive in, and embrace, for better or worse.
Are we simply doing them a disservice by shielding from the World? as it really is, not as imagined?
