Review of Captain Fantastic (2016) by Josh R — 05 Aug 2016

I know some people adore this film Captain Fantastic, and although I did like the film overall, I have too many issues with it to feel the same way. Viggo Mortensen gives a fantastic performance, and the rest of the cast is very good as well. But the film occasionally just keeps falling into these cliche and formulaic plot holes, which really started detracting from my enjoyment of the film. However, there is one moment towards the end of the film that is not cliche, but unfortunately, it's not the good kind of unpredictability and is just very "ehh". The movie in the end just feels overlong, as there are WAY too many unnecessary endings, and this nearly frustrated me. And although it can be very charming at times, at others it just feels like the movie thinks far too highly of itself.
