Review of Captain Fantastic (2016) by Lise L — 21 Oct 2016
Dissapointed! I do not buy into the paradise portrait of living in nature and being a family in harmony - with just a few simple outbursts of protest. Being a single mother in a civilized city I simply do not buy the premise that you can live in the wilderness and raise six children to be "philosopher kings" with a mentally sick mother on the side without having to face much more pain and suffering than shown in this sugary fantasy.
Not accepting the premise makes the movie a bit ridiculous and Dad more of a dangerous fanatic - like the dad in "The Mosquito Coast". In Danish we say about stories that are really far out and not believable: you must take that story further into the wilderness! Captain Fantastic is already in the far wilderness.
