The movie opens with Ben (Viggo Mortensen) custom living as an outcast along with his six children living away from city life, only to learn that their mother had passed away somewhere in Mexico city, motivating Ben and his 6 children to go on a road trip to visit his wife/mother.
it is during then his reality clashes with the city. The Road trip idea may be Inspired by Little miss Sunshine.
