Review of Captain Fantastic (2016) by Jonathan H — 21 Dec 2016
To put it simply "Captain Fantastic" is FANTASTIC. You will not want to miss this roller coaster ride of emotions where you could be laughing or crying from one scene to the next. This well directed, well acted film is one of Viggo mortensens best as he puts in a spectacular performance as the main character. What is normally asked about films like this is "were the child actors any good or were they just plain annoying?". The answer is yes they are really good and no they are not annoying.
The script is well thought out with some very heartwarming/ heart wrenching scenes beautifully portrayed on screen. Each character had their moment to shine and the moral of the story does not get lost in the runtime of the film (this film has a very important message about family and today's society).
On to the negatives, there's not much to say. If you are not a fan of these types of movies than this will not reinvigorate your opinion but this film is good where it matters. The argument between characters motivations could have been centred on more but overall this was handled well.
In summation, watch this movie as it will give you the chills and will make you feel more optimistic by the end. My rating for this film is: 5/5.
