Review of Captain Fantastic (2016) by Scott K — 18 Jul 2016
I was honestly surprised at how poorly constructed I found this film to be, given the otherwise high ratings.. but I am fairly convinced it is people who just want to think "ahh, this movie is telling us something profound about life", but are willing to overlook some INCREDIBLY glaring plot holes and character inconsistencies.
From the opening you were conflicted by the main character, which was the point and well done.. BUT, you quickly lose sympathy for him as he acts in ways far below his apparent intellect and own teachings. By the end, the movie abandons all sense of continuity and are supposed to just forget that anyone on earth cares about the fate of this family.
A couple of good scenes, but not worth the time. Story needed far more attention to detail and about 45 minutes less of the same scene repeated over and over.
