Review of Captain Blood (1935) by Mark B — 23 Jun 2014
Classic swashbuckler is Errol Flynn first starring role, making him a star, and it was also his first pairing with the gorgeous 19 year-old Olivia de Havilland, this being only her third film. The great Michael Curtiz directed the story about a wrongfully arrested doctor who is sold into slavery by the British authorities and then leads a slave revolt, only to become the titular seafaring pirate captain.
The film is exciting, romantic and is everything you could hope for out of classic Hollywood. You even get Basil Rathbone the Frenchy villain.
