Review of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) by Steven H — 29 Aug 2015
Easily my favorite Marvel Studios film to date (through phase 2). Along with Hulk and now the newly acquired Spider-Man, Cap is my fav character that Marvel has the rights to. Caps origins for the most part has been my favorite story line/arc for the character from the comics.
So after First Avenger I wasn't sure how I would feel with a modern Captain America film. I am so happy to say, the Russo's knock it out the park and put any fears or doubts I had to rest. Seeing a man from a simpler time trying to adjust to the modern world ended up being a great way to show how far times have changed.
From a simpler time to a world more cynical and more of a gray area surrounding most things, Cap is still the same man and even during trying times will not give up on those closest to him. Much like the traditional Superman, he is a man unwavering from doing what is in his heart.
This is a film that has a throwback 70's espionage/thriller vibe and seeing someone like Captain America in that setting is a brilliant change of pace.
