Review of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) by Diyar G — 05 May 2016

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is one of the best comic book films I've ever seen and it was freaking awesome! Here's what I liked.

Positives:

1. The story; this film has an interesting story and the whole thing with Hydra was handled so well.

2. The characters; Chris Evans honestly owns as Steve Rogers/Captain America, I mean if you think otherwise then whatever... Scarlett Johansson is awesome as usual as Black Widow in all the right ways... *ahem*. The rest of the cast is awesome of course and their banter and all that is there and awesome! Especially some which brings me to my next positive.

3. The villain(s); this film has two villains and both of them are handled in cool ways. Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce is great, you buy him as this political type character and his villainous ways are handled so well, he is also give well written dialogue and overall is an awesome villain. The Winter Soldier is pretty much the side villain and he is great. You completely understand why he's doing all this bad stuff and I'm not gonna go too much into him cause I don't want to spoil anything. What's cool is both villains do their atrocities in different ways, Alexander Pierce does them through dialogue and without any action, while Winter Soldier who is on the opposite side of spectrum goes out there and gets his hands dirty, and I really liked that dynamic!

4. The action; all of the action is badass and is filmed well. There is some shaky cam but its handled in a way where its stylistic and actually improves the action. My favourite scene is the highway scene, its so awesome I rewatched it, thats how awesome it is! My favourite part of that scene was the fight scene between Captain America and Winter Soldier, it was badass!

5. The feel/tone; this film is honestly more of a political spy thriller than a typical superhero film. The story along with its tone honestly elevates this film and it is the most grounded of all the Marvel films I've seen so far.

Overall:

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is my favourite MCU film and one of my favourite comic book films as well as one of my favourite films of all time! I can honestly watch this film and view it as a film of its own rather than a typical superhero film, good job Russo Brothers, I can't wait for Civil War!
