Review of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) by Robert L — 24 Jul 2016

An amazing blend of superhero action and political thriller, this film is so perfectly executed and brilliantly written that it's hard to believe it's still just a film about a star-spangled hero.

It's smart, clever and consistently suspenseful. Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson are terrific, with new addition Anthony Mackie making his own mark on the series, establishing himself as a character to look out for.

But it's the arrival of the Winter Soldier that really sets the film apart from the rest, as the mysterious villain steals each and every scene he's in. The film may fall into a somewhat predictable finale but the rest of the film is so perfect that you can easily forgive it.
