Review of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) by Dan E — 12 May 2018

This is the film that began the legacy of the Russo Brothers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the directing duo that has left a huge impact on this franchise and continue to amaze with each film they make.

"Captain America: The Winter Solider" takes place decades after most of the events in the first Captain America film but only a couple of years after Steve Rogers woke up in the final scene of "The First Avenger".

The brave hero goes rogue to uncover a conspiracy within S.H.I.E.L.D. and will need the help of his Avengers co-worker Black Widow and his brand new friend, the Falcon. At the same time, an assassin named the Winter Solider gets in their way, to complete his mission of killing Steve.

Turning this film into a conspiracy thriller was an ingenious idea. The whole cast shines, but Chris Evans once again gives a dedicated and inspiring performance as the hero who never gives up. It's filled with twists, surprises, emotion and absolutely mind-blowing action sequences that elevate the superhero genre in new heights.

This whole exploration of Steve's relationships with friends, co-workers, allies and people that are important into his life is quite powerful and just shows how much this group of directors and writers care about these characters.

They even got the villain right, which is not that easy. Clearly one of the best movies I've seen in the comic book/superhero genre.
