Review of Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) by Alex M — 20 Apr 2017
I remember feeling slightly apprehensive before watching this movie the first time. I really wasn't sure how a period set super-hero film would work. I was quickly set right however. Chris Evans shines in the role and you are rooting for him throughout both before and after his transformation.
He has managed to make a character that could be quite straight laced and generic into an interesting and nuanced performance. The biggest shame of this film is the fact that they are not able to do more adventures in this time period with these characters.
The only other criticism I would have is that Red Skull doesn't feel as fleshed out as he could and with Hugo Weaving not interested in a return it feels though a great Marvel character is currently in purgatory.
