Remakes fail as the canon says.There are times and moments though where the copycat of an original twists the intelligence a bit.Scorsese's first remake attempt is effective as a thriller and a shocking domestic disturbance and it's no match to the authentic's quality.
However,De Niro is a perfect dramatic actor (what a villain!!) and the tragic scenery make up for all the remake's mistakes.
