Review of Cape Fear (1991) by Marcus W — 13 Aug 2010
Uh, no. The reason the original is so good is due to subtlety and strong acting. Here, it's all overblown. Having Cady spout 17th century philosophy makes him neither threatening nor intelligent. Giving the family flaws loosens the bond between them.
Cady seducing the wife and daughter means nothing come the climax, and all the fancy theatrics and cinematography serve only to dilute the tension. Terrible.
