Review of Cape Fear (1991) by Swayam B — 20 Apr 2011
Wow!, this movie is very chilling, in a great realistic way, it really gets under your skin and sometimes makes you scream out loud in absolute terror. The acting is good all around, but Juliette Lewis stands out the most, giving an outstanding performance.
De Niro's performance is also very good, sometimes it's great, adding to the intensity and horror, but sometimes it's a bit too flamboyant, making the film less effective. Overall, though the performance is definetly powerful.
It is the fact that he is so determined to get his revenge that makes this so scary, it shows how a families life can crumble in just one moment. When he drowns at the end may seem a bit disappointing, but I didn't find it to be that, because your heart is non-stop pumping for the last twenty minuites, it is tension that scorse uses so well in Cape fear.
A definetly underrated film, that was seen as very good, but is in fact incredible. It may be slightly overwrought, but this just adds to its greatness. In my opinion, a classic horror, like The shining and psycho.
