Review of Cape Fear (1991) by Pieter-Jan V — 07 Jul 2012
Just as smart as it is stylish as it is terrifying (mainly because De Niro). A main reason that I believe people don't like it is because it is off-putting with it's creative mixture of horror and beauty at the same time, we don't know what to think of it.
But, that is the way we feel about Max Cady, and we learn that when the three men start beating him. We realize we have sympathy for him, but you're not sure. I think the style of the movie is just that and the movie is still as solid as any Scorsese film.
Thank god Spielberg didn't direct this. Scorsese is the master. Far more than most will ever know.
