Review of Cape Fear (1991) by Drew B — 13 Dec 2013
The script is ridiculous, the characters are weak, and the acting is surprisingly one-note, given the cast. DeNiro manages a somewhat engaging performance, but everything else about this movie was needlessly over the top.
If Scorsese's name wasn't listed, I'd have sworn that it was directed by a novice filmmaker who mapped out dolly shots simply because he could. The constant zooms, pans, tilts, and other camera tricks are distracting and juvenile.
The repeated blare of the theme music throughout the two hours of the movie becomes nauseating, and the climactic scene on the houseboat was so disjointed, Michael Bay would have thought it went too far.
There is absolutely nothing noteworthy or clever in this movie, and I feel like I had my time wasted.
