Review of Can't Hardly Wait (1998) by Dann M — 31 Jul 2013
Can't Hardly Wait is an entertaining and fun teen comedy that's surprisingly insightful. A high school graduation party proves to be a watershed moment as several characters take their last shots at love, revenge, redemption, and friendship.
While the story's a bit generic, to also takes the characters on a journey of self-discover that's more thoughtful than one would expect from a teen film. Starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ethan Embry, Seth Green, Jaime Pressly, and Freddy Rodríguez, the cast is quite impressive, and their performances do a good job at giving some personality to these otherwise stereotypical characters.
Additionally, the film has an excellent soundtrack that has a lot of energy and captures the tone of the material. Despite some flaws, Can't Hardly Wait speaks to the '90s high school experience in a way that few films of the time were able to.
