Review of Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death (1989) by Lily R — 01 Mar 2010
I saw this one after hearing film reviewer Mark Kermode give it thumbs up on more than one occasion, and I have to say that he was right. Yes, it's a B-movie, but it's done well, with a zany plot and tongue-in-cheek humor.
With a title like that, I expected the lowest of the low, but what I got was an above average script with enough comedy in it to keep me chuckling throughout, with a few belly laughs. Shannon Tweed was what really made this one work as well as it did, keeping that deadpan delivery amidst the ridiculousness.
Rent it, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Sidenote: after watching this, California residents may be tempted to conduct a search for the Avocado Jungle of Death.
