Review of Cannibal Holocaust (1980) by Sebastian T — 24 Mar 2009
So far, this is the only Cannibal Exploitation movie I've seen worthwhile. It's one of the more extreme underground mainstream (if that makes any sense) movies out there. It's completely immoral, unethical, and unapologetically unecessary.
The filmmakers even got arrested for actually killing animals and they had to prove the people in the movie were still alive and weren't actually killed. This a movie for fans of extremity. The rape scenes, the cannibal home cookins', the abuse by "the white man", all of it stretches the limits.
It was one of the first horror movies to be filmed like a documentary, and after seeing it, I totally disregarded any appreciation I had for movies like The Blair Witch Project for orignality. Don't see this movie if you're squeamish or have a soft spot for animals or if you don't like to see depictions of graphic castrations.
