Review of Cannibal Holocaust (1980) by Cohen S — 26 May 2009
The first time I saw this it managed to shock the hell out of me and I actually had a hard time eating anything with meat in it for a few days. Now time (and a healthy dose of gorier movies) has stripped away a lot of this movie's shock value.
The premise is still cool (is it real or not?l) and the fact that you do have animals being slaughtered makes it believable and hard to stomach. If anything, I think the power of this movie lies in its cult status.
Not offering much in terms of body, this film will continue to beckon those young horror fans that want a glimpse of early exploitation. Worth experiencing.
