Review of Cannibal Holocaust (1980) by Kyle V — 15 Aug 2009
Brutal. Nasty. Nearly unwatchable at times.
This movie could be filth. This movie could be exploitative. This movie could even be considered art to some. I myself can't say that I enjoyed sitting through this film, but I give it it's merit it deserves for creating a convincingly realistic "snuff film". If I watched this in the 70's, i'm sure I would be even more shocked at what I saw in the film then I am now, because back then, they didnt have the internet and the knowledge I held beforehand. they only had their instincts and their innocent senses and this film could definately destroy every one of them.
The special effects are ahead of their time. the girl on the stake is an amazing effect and just shows what the magic of cinema can do.
Watch this with an open mind and try to put yourself back in this films heyday. Judge it on what it did with what it had and be amazed, shocked and totally grossed out by what happens in the course of the 98 minutes it has you in its grasp.
