The controversy surrounding this movie is, at the least, highly overrated. The infamous scene of the girl being mounted on a pole, is not very impressive. Nowadays there are far more gruesome releases on the market.
It will always be remembered for the controversy it sparked in its own age, but today, this movie has lost the majority of its strenght.
