Review of Cannibal Holocaust (1980) by Jonathan P — 20 Oct 2009
Prehaps one of the toughest movies to rate (as well as watch) I have ever come across. I can not for one second condone the animal cruelty the director used to make this film (yes those were REAL animals being slaughtered on film).
Yet the message behind this film is one that I truly enjoyed, everu society is guilty in one way or another of violence and inhumanity. We see the cannibals as vicious scum, yet while watching the recovered documentary footage we see us (the american filmmakers) are just as neandrathalic and cruel as the cannibals they ridicule.
This movie is definatly not for everyone (you need a strong stomach and can not be easily offended), yet if these are traits you possess than prehaps you should give this movie a shot. Realize that it is gory and cruel but try to grasp the underlying message, and if that is not possible do enjoy the amazing musical score that really sets the tone for most of the movie.
