Review of Cannibal Holocaust (1980) by David G — 31 Oct 2011
First of all, this is probably the most disturbing and disgusting film ever made. Through real animal killings and situations that are very intense for the victims of them, Cannibal Holocaust makes a very efficient critic of modern society.
In the movie, some explorers are discovered to be killed and eaten by a cannibal community in the jungle. But it's also found the tape they were recording as a documentary about those cannibal cultures. The magic of the movie is that, after the barbarities the explorers committed against nature and the cannibal populations, we get to see the killings, desmembranings and rapes the explorers receive as fair and normal reactions from the cannibals. And that's to say a lot. And the last phrase, "I wonder who the real cannibals are", is another thing that helps the movie work that much.
The only problem of the movie is the acting. They're all horrible. But let's face it: not a lot of actors would like to participate in such a movie, so it's not fault of the actor or the directors, but I have to take it in count to say how good or bad the movie is.
Summarizing, Cannibal Holocaust is a masterpiece. Yes, but a horrible acted one.
