Review of Cannibal Holocaust (1980) by Leri J — 11 Feb 2012
Disturbing, horrifying, shocking, beautiful. These are the words that come to my mind when I think of this film. Its horrible to the immature, ignorant eye. But pushing past the brutality of this film, and it is possible I was able to do it, it becomes one of the best films ever made. It tackles disturbing ideas, but the end truly makes you stop and think--who is the true savage? The jungle cannibal? Or the "civilized" white man.
I can go on and on and on about how great this film is, but I wont.
I can go on and on and on about how horrendous and controversial this is, but you can look at any damn review for that. I try to be unbiased.
All that said, I doubt I'll ever call this a favorite film of mine, though its pretty damn close to perfect, I just cant. My mentality wont allow it.
I strongly, highly, with all my mite recommend this to the viewer who can watch this, who can push the brutality, who can see the beauty that this film truly is. Sadly so few amount of people in this world fit this quota...so so so very sad...
