Holy crap was this difficult to rate... After watching this controversial "masterpiece" by the condemned director Ruggero Deodato, the final list built about its pros and cons was massive and interesting.

So here we are, facing the decadence of society's progress through cannibal eyes. Now, that's hardcore, audacious in my book, definitely. Real animal executions fail; those are always desperate means to cause a shock value. And then again, the same shock value could have been obtained by omitting those parts and leaving them implied.

Does the film live up to its hype? Yes, it does, especially if you get to see the fully uncut version of the flick including the uncensored "Road to Hell" snuff footage. Man's insatiable and sick ambition for obtaining material goods? Point taken, guaranteed. Cannibal Holocaust is a hugely influential flick that unleashed a never-ending branch of countless flicks of the genre. Forget your Blair Witch Project: this is the real deal.

97/100.
