Review of Cannibal Ferox (1981) by Richard A — 21 Mar 2009
Ahhhhhhhh yes, the good ol' cannibal sub genre how I love thee. The italian exploitation filmmakers created a whole genre based on kooky and fake looking cannibals (mucked up mainlander actors) who do away with so called civilized modern society humans due to the atrocities brought forth by the aforementioned on the snuggly, lovable tribes. That's the whole plot (genre really) summed up in the nutshell!
In Cannibal Ferox's case we have 2 anthropology grad students writing their thesis on cannibalism and how it doesn't exist! Can you guess what happens!!!??? The students and their slutty friend (who gets it good in the end, don't the sluts always? hahaha) stumble upon a couple of gents, one played by (in)famous exploitation italian actor extrordanaire Giovanni Lombardo Radice (better known as John Morghen). It seems Mike (Morghen) has stirred the local cannibal tribe up into a frenzy and there will be hell to pay! "They tied him to a stake and castrated him with a machete, then they ATE HIS GENITALS!!!!".
Ruggero Deodato's Cannibal Holocaust did it good but Lenzi's Cannibal Ferox gave it some more flavour! Forever Grade Z cannibal classick.
