Review of Candyman (1992) by Aaron J — 02 Sep 2009
What a fab film! I'm quite glad I didn't ever watch it when I was younger, solely because I don't think I would've appreciated the wicked cast (Kasi Lemmons!) or Phillip Glass' score quite so much.
A surprisingly thoughtful film, it's nice to see a slasher with a twist of originality (which I imagine is down to Clive Barker's source material). Viriginia Madsen makes for a heroine one can really, really root for (despite her flaws) and the Candyman himself is a charismatic, albeit frightening villain.
Great stuff.
