Review of Candyman (1992) by Kevin H — 12 Apr 2009
An above average horror film, Candyman transcends the genre and gives us not only a slasher, but a psychological thriller as well. Virginia Madsen is great as a reporter investigating a series of slayings perpetrated by a mysterious figure known as "Candyman".
Tony Todd is equally adept in his portrayal of this character. The story is driven forward by a strong script and tight direction and by the end you are not sure what is happening but it's all explained.
Candyman is not a pretty film, much of it is ugly, but then again, that's the idea and that's its strength. Highly recommended.
