Review of Candyman (1992) by Corey M — 11 Jun 2010
Maybe I'm alone on this one, but actually seeing the supernatural entity bursting through dry-wall wearing a fur lined cape makes me laugh and cringe instead of feel fear. A good horror film is subtle with its scares, not blatant.
Other than that, the movie doesn't make a whole lot of sense to be honest. It gives off that "I'm the writer and I know exactly what I want to do here, but can't really communicate it to my audience effectively" sort of vibe.
How did it receive near-universal acclaim when it first came out, and why did it merit a sequel?
