Review of Candy. (2010) by Ola G — 29 Jun 2008
Candy played by stunning Abbie Cornish strikes up a very intensive relationship with the struggling bohemian poet Dan (Heath Ledger). They find themselves indulging in drugs, which they feel creates an even stronger bond between them. Soon enough they are full fledged heroin addicts and the road just continues downwards.
"Candy" has a semi similar structure and story as Darren Aronofskys "Requiem For A Dream", but the former is not as strong as the latter. Abbie Cornish is convincing though as Candy and Ledger is not bad, still Cornish steals the limelight for sure. And Mr. Rush is always a treat in any movie.
Nevertheless, there is something missing in the emotional hooks the story throws out. "Candy" does not entirely convince me and this movie will easily be forgotten in my book. "Candy" tries hard, but does not really reach the goal.
