Review of Candy (2006) by Leeroy C — 29 Mar 2008
Machine gun fire to the background of ave verum corpus -- at a central peak in the story, it illustrates the disconnection from reality, in some level like the climactic battle scenes from Avalon or 300.
Powerful and truly confronting performances from the whole cast, nonetheleast was Geoffrey Rush (Dan's father), opposite Tony Martin (Candy's father) an unexpectedly soft character given his past work.
Dan and Candy's turbulent relationship switches rapidly from obsessive passion to destructive despair to spiralling oblivion.
This was a shining if seminal work in Heath Ledger's brief career; how ironically prescient.
