Review of Candy (2006) by Jonathan A — 19 May 2008
After Brokeback on Channel 4 this came on and I realised it must be a tribute to Ledger night. Having previously associated him with shit films, having watched him in Brokeback (and looking forward to seeing him in The Dark Knight) I figured I would forego a healthy night's sleep and watch this.
It turned out to be brilliant. A very harsh and quite depressing at times portrayal of two junkies but hopelessly in love. Nice and simple, not overdone budget-wise, nice editing showing various lapses of time between scenes, and above all good acting and direction.
As I said before a very bittersweet film but probably the best I have seen in a while.
