Review of Candy (2006) by Alex S — 28 Feb 2009
It's hard for me not to compare this to the superior trainspotting and even though the relationship here is prominent together with the drug and its effects, it's difficult to think that you're seeing something fresh being dealt with.
The performaces are convincing and realistic and there are sparks of better than competent, heath ledger fares less well compared to the girl for my money. But overall this doesn't get up to the upper echelons that it might have been aimed at; artistic, poetic and true to life, it just loses on freshness for me and it falls well short of brilliance.
